Kalpika Spa

Kalpika Spa

Kalpika Spa is possibly the busiest spa I have ever seen. It has been recommended by Toris, our Bali guide and we are in for a treat.

A traditional Balinese massage is one of life’s delights. Our twin massage at Kalpika Spa doesn’t disappoint.

We are soon shown to a room on the second floor with side by side massage tables set up. Our masseuses are waiting. They hand us towels, show us the bathroom and then leave us to change.

A few minutes later they return and, face down on the tables our massages begin.

There is soft piped music but apart from this and the soft strokes of the massage there is no noise. Our masseuses move through their routine silently and almost completely in sync.

I melt into the table as she works first on my back, neck and shoulders then moving to legs.

By the time I need to turn over for arms, front and head I’m very nearly asleep. Or at deeply relaxed.

Balinese Massage

Balinese massage is famous the world over for their special technique. This is a full body, deep tissue massage and holistic treatment.

Traditionally, Balinese massage uses a combination of therapies including gentle stretching, acupressure, reflexology and aromatherapy. These are used to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy (qi) around the body.

After a Balinese massage, you’re likely to feel deeply relaxed, calm and have a renewed sense of wellbeing. I’m well on the way to this now.

My masseuse also uses a variety of techniques. I have chosen a lavender based oil and she used this to kneed, skin roll and stroke. There are also moments where I am aware of the gentle but specific pressure, stimulating certain points. Combined with the aroma of the lavender oil it’s all deeply relaxing.

By the time our hour is up, I am experiencing a deep sense of calm and wellness. Although I would like to lie here for a bit longer, it’s time to get going and we take a quick shower, rinsing the oil off. Afterwards I feel clean, relaxed and refreshed.

The scent from the oil lingers and I can return to the calmness if I breathe deeply for the rest of the day.

Good To Know

Balinese massage techniques work to soothe damaged tissue and joint pain and relieve strained muscles. It boosts circulation, helping to reduce stress and rebalance the body.

Sightseeing in Bali is best done with a guide. We toured with Toris (WhatsApp +62 859-3448-1212).

Would I Return?

Yes. Although, no doubt, not the cheapest massage in Bali, Kalpika Spa is a professional establishment with quality facilities and staff.
