The Greenroom does a mean traditional English roast. It’s not what immediately comes to mind on a 48°C day in Dubai. Nevertheless, we find ourselves here for an afternoon of multiple pool(s), table soccer and Sunday roasts.
Indoors
Arriving from the heat of the afternoon into the cool bistro style of The Greenroom, we are promptly seated although not quite ready for dinner. It’s 3:30pm and we envisaged making use of the pool for a bit of a swim before dinner. However, our plans are slightly waylaid when the kids find the pool tables upstairs (near the golf simulator) and we’re drawn in for a challenge. First on the pool tables, then another table game, soccer. After maybe an hour, we head outside, this time to the swimming pool and, despite the heat, we never quite make it back into the air conditioning.
Outdoors
The atmosphere by the pool is, again despite the heat, completely chilled. So, might I add, is the water. At a very pleasant 30°C (or so), the kids settle in to play while Jason I take a dip in the deep end, away from too much noise and splashing.
From here we manage to while away the rest of the day. A couple of beers, a bit of a read, interspersed with dips in the pool to keep cool. Add some ball games with a few belly flops for good measure and by around 6pm we are read for some dinner.
Well, it is Sunday after all, and The Greenroom is known for its traditional Sunday roast. So, we continue to ignore the weather and make the most of the occasion with our choice of roast beef, lamb, chicken or nut roast (vegetarian) served with roasted potato, cauliflower cheese, honey glazed parsnip, carrot, green beans and of course Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
By now the sun is sinking and the air temperature is headed back down towards 40°C so it’s back into the pool for some more fun (for the kids) and relaxation (for the adults) before finally packing up and heading home.
A great family day out and a very nice way to spend a not so traditional Sunday roast afternoon. Plus, we managed to avoid the screens all afternoon (bar a few photos), so that’s a win on any Dubai summer’s day!
