It’s time for some Marina cruising. My Uncle & Aunt are visiting from Australia on their Fly By Dubai visit. They’re heading home after a month long whirlwind tour of Europe and have only three days to explore all Dubai has to offer. This is made more difficult by the fact that we’re in the depths of Dubai’s summer months. Still, we do our best!
Dubai Marina
This afternoon we are braving the heat and humidity for a cruise along Dubai Marina and out to view JBR. We have chosen a nice social boat, and once on board, we head out from the Dubai Harbor towards the Marina. With an open deck and plenty of seating, we set up our drinks and cheese platter for the occasion.
Our guests seem rather struck by the grandeur of the Marina and all the buildings. In particular, the Cayan Tower (better known as the Twisty Tower) and Marina Mall with its distinctive Address Hotel and Pier 7 close by are always notable favorites. There’s plenty of opportunity for some pictures and we kick back to enjoy the views with a drink and some nibbles.
JBR
Slowly we make our way around the south end of the Marina and out towards JBR between the new Address Beach Resort and Bluewaters Island. From here, with a little time up our sleeve, we are able to stop and enjoy the evening view as the lights start to twinkle on all around us.
The Dubai Marina essentially sits behind JBR. Both areas offer a vast array of apartment living and hotel options that are close to shops, restaurants, the beach and commerce. The Marina is known for its plethora of restaurants, particularly those huddled around the hub of Marina Mall and Pier 7.
JBR offers proximity to this famous stretch of (mostly) public beach with more restaurant options, numerous beach clubs and even more hotels. Plus, it connects at the south end to Bluewaters Island, home of Ain Dubai, via pedestrian bridge.
The bay formed around this area and bordered on the third side by the Sky Dive Dubai runway is particularly popular for boating and jet skiing. With sky divers visible arriving back at the hub, planes taking off and jet skis all around, it can be tricky to find a quiet enough spot for wakeboarding when we come here in the mornings.
As well as the scenery of Bluewaters Island, JBR and further over to the Dubai Harbour and The Palm, we are treated to one of those ‘only in Dubai’ moments as a couple of these Water Link jet cars goes by.
After we watch the sun go down and the lights start coming on, it’s time for us to get going. We make our way back to Dubai Harbor with the skyline coming to life. By the time we dock in the harbor, it is properly dark.
We disembark and pause one more moment to enjoy the view before retreating back for a shower and an evening of air conditioning.
Good To Know
Both Dubai Harbor and Dubai Marina have companies that offer tourist cruises and private boats for hire. One of the popular tourist options is also the Dhow cruises.
