Royal Opera House

Wow! The Royal Opera House is a spectacular sight and I think we caught it at its best light with the pink hues of sunset reflecting off the sparkling new marble.  It’s new, with construction only completed in 2011.  It’s also grand, and while the main concert hall has capacity for 1100, there is also an auditorium, an art centre, retail and restaurants contained in the complex all set in beautiful formal landscaped gardens.

The performance calendar doesn’t have the longevity of plays on Broadway and most shows will only play for a few nights, but there’s a great selection with everything from local Omani music and theatre to Puccini operas, symphony orchestras and international ballet companies.  There is also a selection of free ticketed events so be sure to check for performances and plan ahead if a night at the Opera House is on the cards.

Would I Return?

Yes.  There were no performances scheduled for the Royal Opera House during my stay in Oman but I would love to return to see an opera or ballet performance.  One of the occasional performances that are held in the forecourt outside the main building would also be quite spectacular to witness.
