There’s something about dinner by the water that always feels like a little escape. Perhaps especially so when the city heat clings to your skin and the air is heavy with the scent of sun-warmed concrete. That’s why, on a golden Belgrade evening, we find ourselves heading southwest. Past the striking silhouette of the Most na Adi and towards the riverbank lies Marinada at Savski Nasip.
Tucked away just far enough from the city center to feel like a getaway, but close enough to reach with a short drive or riverside walk, Marinada is where Belgraders in the know go for seafood, sunset views and the quiet rustle of trees lining the Sava River.
It’s not just a meal here, it’s a scene.
Restaurant by the River
As we approach Marinada, the city fades into the background. A gentle hush rolls over the water. The restaurant’s terrace spills out toward the river. Here tables are shaded by large umbrellas and the breeze dances through the willows. Boats bob in the near distance and the golden light flickers across the surface of the Sava in a way that feels almost cinematic.
This stretch of Savski Nasip, often overlooked in favour of Beton Hala or Dorćol’s riverbanks, offers something refreshingly relaxed. No thumping beats or bustling promenades, just the sound of laughter, clinking glasses and the occasional splash from a passing kayak.
At Marinada, the focus is simple and unwavering. Fresh seafood is served with care, in a setting that invites you to slow down and stay a while.
A Menu Anchored in the Adriatic
Marinada’s menu is proudly Mediterranean. With a spotlight on fish and seafood specialties, it brings the Adriatic coast to the heart of Serbia. This is the kind of place where ordering the catch of the day feels like a must. Grilled sea bass, dorado, calamari and scampi are treated with the respect they deserve.

We start, with a round of the house specialty – mussel soup. This comes with a light yet flavorful broth and is served with lemon wedges, perfect accompaniments. There’s bread on the table, crusty and warm, perfect for mopping up remaining drops and a carafe of chilled white wine that sets the tone for the rest of the evening.
For the main course, there is platter of fish – grouper and sea bream – expertly charred and served simply with olive oil, lemon and sea salt. Too busy watching the delicate serving I miss the platter photo opportunity. Nevertheless, every bite is bright, fresh and subtly smoky. Seafood at its best.

The sides include hot buttered potatoes with spinach, crispy salad dressed with delicate vinaigrettes and
Other diners opt for risottos with squid ink, shrimp and cuttlefish varieties and other types of fish that I can’t determine, all make appearances at nearby tables. The plates, like ours, return to the kitchen completely clean.
Casual Elegance by the Water
What makes Marinada special isn’t just the food (though I’m assured it’s reliably excellent). It’s the whole atmosphere. The riverside setting, the scent of pine and charcoal, the slow swirl of the current beside you as you eat. Combined it creates a sense of pause. A moment outside of the city’s normal rhythm.

This isn’t a place that tries too hard. It doesn’t need to. Families gather for long meals, friends share platters over wine and couples sit hand-in-hand watching the sun sink behind Ada Ciganlija. The soundtrack is gentle conversation, the rustle of trees and the clatter of cutlery on plates.
As the sky darkens, lights glow softly along the terrace and the bridge of Most na Adi illuminates in the distance. There’s a magic to this stretch of the Sava that feels both nostalgic and immediate, like the riverside restaurants of childhood summers, but better.

Worth the Detour
Marinada may not be on every tourist map, but that’s part of the charm. It’s the kind of place you hear about from someone who lives here, the kind of spot where locals bring visitors when they want to impress without fanfare.
If you’re craving seafood in Belgrade, skip the crowds and follow the river south. Marinada delivers more than a meal. The experience gives rise to a gentle reminder that some of the best experiences happen just beyond the obvious, where the water runs quiet and the flavours speak for themselves.
