Introduce yourself and your blog
A long time ago, back in year eight, our religious education teacher instigated a practice of journaling for 20 minutes at the beginning of each class. At first, it was a chance to do nothing for those 20 minutes, just sit and think. By the time I actually decided to write something, it was mostly schoolgirl ramblings about crushes, dreams and friends.
However, as the years went on, I continued this practice of daily reflection that turned into a lifelong love of writing. A way to both process my own stories and my place in the world around me.
Over the years I used this method to produce emails for my friends and family during travel, keeping them updated of my whereabouts and experiences.
Eventually, as technology facilitated, I turned these experiences and stories into posts. Initially I kept them for a private audience. However, in 2017, I created Dukes Global Adventures and undertook the task of re-writing my experiences for a broader audience.
Now I journal and write using a mixture of methods. Sometimes I still write longhand in a journal, other times I draft directly into a post and sometimes it’s a mixture.
However, I still use this method of journaling as the basis for my posts. It is now supplemented with additional research of my experience, observations, and my own photos of the subjects and occasions. Yet they still remain the essence of my life stories.
This blog and the posts that it contains are both a reflection and outcome of this lifelong passion. I hope you’ll enjoy the experiences and experience the passion as much as I have and keep returning to dukesglobaladventures.com.
