The Pulse

The Pulse

Tonight our date night took us back to the iconic Dubai Opera for The Pulse by Gravity & Other Myths. This was an unforgettable experience, nothing short of transcendent. Last month for our wedding anniversary, Jason presented me with not one, but two sets of tickets. The first was for my all time favorite musical, Les Miserables at the Etihad Arena. The second for a never previously heard of show, The Pulse, at Dubai Opera.

I had no idea what to expect so imagine my surprise and delight when a stage, alive with 18 world-class acrobats and 25 powerful choir voices, puts on a show with the performers all moving in perfect harmony to create something far greater than the sum of its parts. That’s The Pulse—a masterclass in movement, music and the raw force of human connection.

Despite what I thought was a promising pose on entering Dubai Opera, my form is not sufficient for what ensues.

Feel the Rhythm of Humanity

The Pulse: source Dubai Opera

From the moment the lights dim, we are pulled into a living, breathing system of bodies and sound. Towering human formations rise and fall like waves. Voices surge in unity. It feels less like watching a show and more like becoming part of a communal heartbeat—a visceral pulse that ties every audience member to the performers and to each other.

The technical mastery behind The Pulse is awe-inspiring. With an original score by Ekrem Eli Phoenix and the original founding acrobats apparently still in the troupe, the performance becomes an immersive sensory experience. Light and sound aren’t just enhancements, they are also characters in the story, shaping mood and meaning with every beat.

More than just a spectacle, The Pulse explores the essence of what makes us human: cooperation, trust, resilience. In a world that often feels disconnected, this performance reminds us of the power in unity. It isn’t just art, it is a celebration of community and the beauty of collective effort.

Anticipation at Dubai Opera

The towering human pyramids and synchronized movement, illuminated by dynamic, living light provides some unforgettable visuals. The 25-person choir doesn’t just accompany the performance, it drives it with the raw and undeniable power of a live choir. And the journey moves me both physically and emotionally, with themes of harmony and shared existence that reach an emotional depth.

Good To Know

This isn’t just a night at the theatre, it is a transformative moment that stayed with me well after the final bow. If you ever get the chance to witness The Pulse live, don’t hesitate. Let yourself feel the rhythm, the power and the beauty of what we can achieve together reflected in this performance.

The Pulse by Gravity & Other Myths is showing at Dubai Opera, 9 – 11 May 2025.

Just like our 23 year marriage, the combination of the two shows was an experience of comforting familiarity, enduring love, new experiences and some surprises!

Would I Return?

No. Only because I think the power of the experience would be diminished a second time.
