Ibu Rai, along one of Ubud’s main streets, is a perfect spot to grab a sundowner and await the towns nightlife.
Having come from among the Kajang rice fields, we’re not overly hungry after a late lunch at Sweet Orange Warung, nor are we quite ready to head back to the hotel. We walk down the main street of Jl. Monkey Forest but it’s clear the shops are closing for the night as the restaurants begin to advertise their happy hours.
Happy hour does seem like a good idea and so we seek one with a nice atmosphere and agree to have a drink and nibble on something small. I select a classic Mojito and mum a strawberry version and we agree on some spring rolls and calamari to nibble as accompaniments.
Unfortunately the spring rolls are not overly flavorful while the calamari is acceptable while not remarkable.
After this I’m craving something sweet and convince Mum of some sorbet sorbet. Tonight it’s guava and strawberry. It’s beautifully presented and yummy enough although rather small in stature.
By now we agree that we’re done for the day and ready to head back to the hotel. It’s been a great day with our pause at Ibn Rai a nice ending to the sites of the Ubud Palace and the experience of the Kajeng Rice Fields.
Good To Know
Try the Grab App to catch a ride. If you have the energy, it is better to negotiate with one of the local drivers. However, the app takes out all the guesswork associated with a foreign town. You enter your location and destination, the car picks you up and drops you off, and the fare estimate that is available upfront is not any pretty accurate, but it takes all the guesswork out of having to bargain for the ride.
Would I Return?
No. The food doesn’t warrant a return.
