It has been a while since I have had a night out with friends so I’m excited about La Carnita and a Ladies Night catch up.
La Carnita, located within the Intercontinental Hotel at Dubai Marina, is a great place for a drink and dinner. On arrival I am shown to a booth. The decor is funky with a large bar area, plenty of seating and a wonderful view over the Marina.
Before long my friends arrive and the music starts up. I order a strawberry margarita to begin with, Google helping to remind me as to the difference between margaritas and daiquiris*, not that I have ever taken issue with either.
La Carnita
After our drinks arrive our waiter returns to take our orders. We each can choose four ‘bites’ from a menu of eight dishes, including one dessert. Then we settle into our catch ups. One of us has started a new job in Dubai and just moved here from Saudi so it’s wonderful to see her. For the rest of us it has been a while too and there is both work news and personal news to catch up on.
Soon our food is served. We end up with a good selection – a couple of salads, some quesadillas, tacos and sweet potato fries to enjoy.
The food is good. The tacos are very tasty and kale salad is extremely good. The dishes are relatively small but together they add up to a meal as we sit back to appreciate the food and company. Plus another round of drinks.
Before we are finished eating, the DJ starts up and the atmosphere changes from funky bar/restaurant to nightclub. We can no longer hear each other (or ourselves) and it pretty much kills the group conversation. We break off into pairs and continue our catch up one on one.
There are some groups that take to the dance floor but it’s only around 9pm and given that we haven’t even finished our meal yet, the loud music seems a bit premature.
Our plates are cleared and dessert is brought to the table. Each of us have ordered a serving of churros (one of the four dishes from our selection). They are good. Hot, crispy, sweet and delicious.
We’d be happy to linger but the music is too much for us and it’s a school night after all. We part ways until next time, happy to have had some Mexican fun in the meantime.
Good To Know
La Carnita, located in the Hotel Intercontinental at Dubai Marina is a great location to catch up with friends. Our Ladies Night menu consisted of a choice of four bites and three beverages for AED125. The drinks and the food (especially the kale salad!) were great. Once the music started in earnest though, the nightclub vibe was too loud to properly enjoy our catch up.
* Margaritas are made with tequila and sweetened with triple sec while daiquiris are made with white rum and sweetened with sugar syrup. Both traditionally contain lime juice, are served over crushed ice and may be flavored with fruit juice.
Would I Return?
Yes.
