Kite Beach, just north of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, is a great day out and there is something to do for everyone. We started out at the skateboard park just across the road from the beach. It’s a hot day (40 degrees Celsius) but the kids don’t care and are off around the ramps, jumps and bowls doing things that I can’t watch for fear of a fall and a trip to the hospital. Next time I think I’ll splurge for a lesson as the wandering professionals sound like they know what they’re talking about.
After a couple of hours, we head over to the beach with some friends, put up the shade tent and hit the water. It’s clear and blue, even more intense than the blue of the sky and everyone is in weekend mode, laid back, chilling out. Kids playing, people swimming, more people laying on the beach or just floating about in the water.
We kick about for a bit and put on our goggles trying to catch the fish that dart between our legs. There’s a sandcastle and a moat and kite surfers make their way into the beach just missing the bathers.
We had planned to hang around for lunch and ice creams at the strip of cafes and restaurants that sit just over the boardwalk and running track but we seem to have brought enough pizza leftover from last night to keep everyone going. Before too long, it’s time to head off. I could laze here all day though and determine to come back, perhaps when it’s slightly cooler and with something to read.
Would I Return?
Yes. Avoid the scorching summer heat and try to time your visit for Autumn or Spring. The skateboard park (XDubai Skatepark) has set opening times and is paid entry so check before arriving. The area is more atmospheric in the late afternoon and early evening when the locals come out to play.
